    1-sentence review :
Surprisingly good game, with a lot going on, heavy atmosphere without being too much horrific, enticing story, and very well tuned gameplay mechanisms, it's a winner on all sides.

    Pros :
    - very solid story-telling with an intriguing story
    - well tuned, pleasant & challenging gameplay mechanism
    - dark, oppressive atmosphere without being too atrocious so it should be ok for (almost) everybody

    Cons :
    - feel a bit like console gameplay at 1st, but it's actually deep enough and controls with keyboard+mouse work well (yup, it's not really a con, but it's the only thing I could think of >_< )

this game is absolutely incredible! i like the atmosphere which makes you feel like being not in game but in real life. you feel main character's horror, you live through him, you're almost like him! it's just like in books.
by the way, the game is about a mystic accident happened to Alan Wake, famous american writer, and our goal is to find out what the hell is going on in Bright Falls.
like i've said above, it's a realistic atmosphering game BUT! one thing in it makes me want to turn off the game: gameplay is toooo slow and boring in some missions. you're just walking around without any idea why and for what purpose. for hours, man. it spoils all pleasant feelings you had before.
i guess, that's the only con in game.
so, i recommend this game to all fans of horror stories, movies and games. i'm sure you'll like Alan Wake. but be ready for slow-paced plot!
    8/10.

Phenomenal game from Finnish developers Remedy. I've now completed this game over 10 times across both the PC and Xbox 360 versions and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great single player experience.

A masterful story, combining elements of Twin Peaks, Stephen King, Lovecraft, and the Twilight Zone. It is engaging story driven narrative that is well worth a play. My only criticisms are the combat can get repetative, the controls are occasionally a little loose, and the difficulty can be very inconsistant (you can sail through whole sections with ease and suddenly hit a single scene that is endless frustrating). These are minor quibbles, however, and more than made up for by the engaging story and good visuals (even for a game rapidly approaching half a decade old). Plus there's a heavy metal stage fight. That alone makes the whole game worth it.

All I can only say is that this is a great game and I hope it gets a sequel. Alan Wake is a completely unique game with an original strategy and game mode. I had lots of fun. Worth paying full price for it because it deserves it. 100% recommended.

One of the best psychological thrillers ever made. The protagonist is writer, surrounded by mystical and scaring events.

    Good features

    • Suspense atmosphere
    • Exciting story
    • Dark and intriguing ambiance
    • Unusual appearance in the best Stephen King's traditions
    • Interesting DLC

I recommend it for all, but remember: when you are inside the writer's nightmare, only light, coffee and manuscript may save you.

Excellent story and enjoyable gameplay. Journey with Alan as he investigates the darkness, and purges it with light.

I've finished this game with all achievements and hidden objects almost four times, and I do want to play it again. But there are so many other games in this world! Someone, stop me, please!

Alan Wake tells you the story of a writer named Alan Wake, who's on vacation with his wife, until he's attacked by a dark presence, and taken away your wife.

The story of this game is based on a manuscript which you can find as a collectible, and you can read it to know what's gonna happen next.

In the game you fight your enemies with two sets of weapon. A light, and a gun. This combat mechanic is quirky but fun in it's own way.

While you're controlling Alan, you can hear his narration through out the whole game. Expressing his feeling, and thoughts, which makes the story more interesting.

On overall i give it around 8/10.

P.S. If you play with "Direct Aiming" disabled the camera movement sensitivity is tied to (varies with) the frame-rate.
To avoid this behavior, you'll need to either enable "Direct Aiming" or make sure your FPS never drops below 60 and enable V-Sync. (Thanks 80TCS) You will need a higher spec than you'd think to keep your FPS at 60.

It's a good game, no doubt, but it suffers from the same problem as a lot of other 3rd person shooter/horror games such as "The Evil Within". It very quickly becomes not "scary" and much more focused on shooting arenas. That being said, it's not a bad game since the combat is OK, the story is interesting and the characters are too.

All in all it's a solid game and if you can get it on a sale it's definitely worth it.

One of the best games in horror genre. It has great story, but obsolete gameplay.
If you want great story and don't mind obsolete gameplay than this is game for you!
