If you've played and enjoyed anything similar to the Dark Souls series, this game is right up your ally!

After reading all of the negative "clunky" reviews, I had to investigate further - this is simply just players not familiar with an action RPG, and managing stamina/energy during combat and actions, or taking into consideration the weight management of equipment you're carrying.

I haven't played a lot of the game, but can hardly wait to play more!

This is seriously an under rated gem. Which is unfortunate that many will most likely not experience as a result of the reviews.

The git-gud or git punished style game play is pertty similar to Dark Souls, but definitely has it's own flair/twist, and is quite enjoyable. I would say it's even more forgiving than a DS game, and is a great into into this style of game.

    As a dark souls fan ;

I really love this game. I didnt buy when it released because heard lots of technical issues. Shame developers ruined its reputation with this bad release. But now, they fixed the issues and didnt experience a single crash. If you love dark souls, definitly give a chance to this game. Of course Its not as amazing as dark souls. No online features etc. But Lords of the Fallen has its own taste that you will like.

All I have to say is...

...that Lords of the fallen is a good Dark souls clone.
    (not as hard but good)

    There. I've said it!

I have done all achievements in this game. I highly enjoy this brutal, clunky and beautiful game. I think that "darksiders 1-dark souls 1 hybrid" is a good explanation what this game really offers. Add modern graphics to this, great soundtrack, few glitches and you get Lords of The Fallen. This game is superb imho.

+ Best armour design I've ever seen.
    + Staggeringly beautiful graphics.
    + Visceral, intense combat.
    + Dark fantasy atmosphere.
+ Interesting and badass enemy design.
    + Sick looking weapons.
    + Intriguing world lore.
    + Good sound effects.
    + Attainable achievements.
    + Fantastic main character.
+ Morally ambiguous dialogue (no Mass Effect style good/evil ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t).
+ Deep story that takes multiple playthroughs to digest.
+ Has New Game ++ (that's the limit, though).
+ Secrets are hard to find.
    + Interesting non-player characters.
    + Sidequests aren't tracked.
+ Game doesn't hold your hand.
    + Good voice acting.
    + Multiple endings.
    + Great object destruction physics.

    - Some horrible bugs.
    - Spelling errors galore.
    - Music isn't the greatest.
    - Lacks polish.
    - Some optimization issues (overblown, though).
    - Difficulty level is inconsistent.
    - Some blood, but no real gore.
    - Goofy corpse physics.

+/- Attack animations are on the slow side.
    +/- Weighty movement system.

So far this game is really awesome. Graphics are beautiful. I like the third person view distance, just right. The movement of my character is smooth/fluid with good combat mechanics. Is this game hard? Yes at first, but does get easier as you level up & get better weapons/armor. Each monster has its own style of killing you & you must figure out how & when to execute your weapon. It can be brutal, especially at first. But it feels rewarding when you figure out how to kill these jokers. So far the game runs very smooth. At the moment, my character is doing pretty well overall. I am still being killed at times, but with only a few wrong moves rather than just one wrong move.

This is essentially Dark Souls for casual players. It offers very good graphics, gorgeous armour and weapons, impressive sceneries, enemies of great variety, bosses with many interesting tactics, a dark and mysterious background story - just as the big model. Dark Souls II was too frustrating and stressful for me - this one, I had fun with. Pity that it is so short and the game world so limited.

Not bad. Enjoying it. Let's say this game is "inspired by Dark Souls". I find this game not too difficult, but that may be due to previous Dark Souls experience. Only downside is it crashed every once in a while... once during a boss fight which was... annoying. But the story is ok - if basic and the combat is enjoyable. Recommended if you are looking for something like Dark Souls but not Dark Souls.

    I really liked this game.

No it's not better than Dark Souls but still it's a very satisfying gaming experience. The combat is one or two steps befind DS system but the visuals are one ladder ahead. The enviroments lack variety but the details in them are really something to look at. To be fair though I've only played DS 1 and 2 so I can't compare it with 3, but I played DS 1, 2 and this one after the other.

I really can't find any excuse not at least trying this game and who knows, maybe you will like it even more than I did :)

It's very good, the visuals are good, bosses look amazing.

Story is terrible, enemies are VERY predictable and use the same combos over and over and over (bosses included)

The camera movement is AWFUL but you get used to it.

Comparing to Dark Souls, it is nowhere near as hard or feels as smooth. Dark Souls enemies feel unpredictable and hit you with unexpected combos unlike LOTF.

Overall it is good but you should wait for a sale when it is $9.99. Definately worth the price!

Not sure what graphics engine they used, but this game was pretty. I really enjoyed my play though with this game. Some frustration with slow attack animations, but nothing game breaking. I had read sites saying that this game considered easy mode Dark Souls, and I would have to agree. Although it was still challenging at times, I did find as you got new gear the difficulty went way down.

Like most games, you will get a feel for a certain way of attacking, certain combos, and spells to use. Once you master your technique this game is not very challenging but still wickedly fun. This title may not have the depth, challenge, and longevity of the souls games, but for someone looking for a moderately challenging and beautiful ARPG this is a worthy pickup. I would suggest anyone who is not familiar with action RPG titles play this one before attempting Dark Souls to understand some of the battle mechanics and frustrations that come with ARPG games. Most definitely recommended.

Originally the 'mixed' rating had put me off, but I decided to try this during a sale.

In a way that was a good thing, going in with low expectations and being pleasantly surprised. The things that made me happy about it:

    • Good graphics
    • Gorgeous environments
    • Framerate not capped at 30 (ahem)
    • Difficult mobs/bosses
    • An actual storyline

I had a read through many of the negative reviews and a lot of it is down to personal frustrations. While in some places the game is actually quite unforgiving, I didn't think it warranted such negativity - difficulty spikes and overcoming them are part of the excitement of playing games like these. The lesson I learned here was to take these Steam ratings with a pinch of salt.

But to each their own, I will say - if you like fantasy-setting style games with difficult yet rewarding fights, try this out.

I would advise you to have a look at a class guide first - I went in as a Solace Rogue and had a very tough time at some places but did manage to complete.

I played this to shorten the wait to Dark Souls 3.

    Pros:
    - cool weapons and armour
    - good graphics
    - stable (after patches), had one crash in 20h

    cons:
    - short
    - a bit too easy compared to the souls series

Alright, Imagine Darksiders 1 + Dark Souls. That's what this game is. A western RPG with the same Mechanics of Dark Souls and the feel of demons of the first Darksiders game.

The game itself, is easier than Dark Souls since it is giving you way more options to adept, learn and level up.
The story is also nice and the main character isn't mute. Overall you can do choices in the game which will lead to different endings.
The game was a lot of fun for me, gonna do at least one more run on new game +.
