This game is actually really good.

The weapons are varied and interesting.

It's primarily a FPS with car racing/destruction in a Mad Max style future. You progress the story by doing fetch quests.

Graphics are still pretty good and the shooting mechanics are satisfying. I had fun with the wingsticks.

As a con, I would say that there are few reverse levels here which is a bit of a cheat.

I also had this game on PS3 so maybe double my play time on this.

Very generic story nowadays with your character waking up in a post apocalyptic wasteland, going against "The Authority". The influence from Fallout and other similar games is readily apparent. However playing this game, as with most ID software games, for the story isn't the point! The weapons are fun, sound good, and I like the different ammo/things you can craft to aid in killing things. Although some of the textures in game can be messy, the facial animations and attention to detail there is quite good. Would recommend this game when it goes on sale with the Scorcher's DLC. For approx $5, great deal for the amount of content. Not the most amazing game, but fun for fans of the FPS genre.

Very impressive from a visual and technical standpoint, and passable gameplay-wise, though it doesn't do anything too inventive. The game itself feels a tad generic and lacks cohesion. Not the greatest of post-apocalyptic FPS games but still definitely worth a look. Recommended.

I'm a bit puzzled that this game does not have a higher rating. I enjoyed playing it thoroughly and have had a hard time finding something that's similar.

Not much of a story in the game, but I really enjoyed the hours I spent playing it.

Underrated gem. Yes, the story is full of cliches and isn't very interesting. Yes, the ending is dissapointing. Yes, the textures could have been better. However... It is very fun to play when it comes to shooting stuff - it has that old school touch that makes wielding weapons so satisfying. Combine that with an interesting enemy behaviour and on higher difficulties it can make gunfights rather challenging, yet still enjoyable. I can also say that I did find some joy in racing and driving around.

If you can get RAGE for 5$ it's really a no-brainer.

Alternative cousin of Borderlands from ID Software... not so open not so dark humour, but still challenging and enjoynable, with good storyline.

This isn't a bad game. I would compare the game's story to Blade Runner; They've created an interesting world that you want to see, but the story doesn't take advantage of that world as much as it could. Though, while the story is pretty lackluster and the ending is terrible, it has solid gameplay and level design which makes it worth playing in my opinion.

    Pros:
    -Enjoyable gameplay
    -Good level design
    -Co-op is fun
    -Very interesting and detailed world

    Cons:
-Technical issues due to the engine (id tech 5)
-The story and characters are pretty lame
    -The ending is incredibly anti-climactic
-Not very difficult, even on the highest difficulty

If you like first-person shooters, you'll probably enjoy this. Just have low expectations for the story.

Borderlands lite done in a realistic style.

    Bad:
ID tech 5 games work on pc, but inexplicably are not set up to work properly from the start- so you have to apply a fix.
Story is pretty minimal and often ridiculous. Not as open or long as Borderlands. Not as long as originally envisioned, feels like the ending could have been better.

    Good:
Scorchers DLC adds a lot with a cool weapon and some variety to the environments. Overall this game is pretty and fun, and the weapons are cool and do get upgrades and different ammo. Great shooting mechanics, ai gunplay, and the racing / combat racing is fun. Solid shooter, try it on sale.

It's not the id Software game everyone had expected. The mega texture technology is not the next revolution everyone had thought. It's not a typical id Software fps and not a milestone in gaming history. BUT... it's a solid fps with open world elements in a post apocalyptic world.

    Wow.
Runs unbelievably smooth on my toaster. Expected from the engine which is behind Wolfenstein: TNO and Old Blood. Solid gunplay and graphics.

what can I say about this game...........it is one of the few obscure games out there that should have had better promotion, it is awesome and just seemed like there could have been so much more.......I think this is a diamond in the rough and has left me wanting more. I purchased this game a couple of years ago and still play it. I so wish there was more DLC for this game.

I snagged this game on sale years ago for me and my nephews but never played it until recently. This is one of those games that was over looked by many; which is a shame as it is a great game! I would say it's a mix of Borderlands and Fallout.

    +Fun gameplay!
    +Good car/driving mechanics
    +Great weapon mechanics
    +Great graphics
-My nephew experienced a bug that required him to go to a previous save to complete a mission; I have not experienced any bugs myself.

Definitely worth checking out when it is on sale!

*Also; How to get the Anarchy pre-order DLC *Free* (alternative option works great):

I Bought RAGE on it's release day because id Software. I'm still a fan of theirs after over 20 years. Don't know why exactly all the time, but yet I am.

I was somewhat disappointed with RAGE. Sure, it looks nice at times, but for all the hype and fervor preceding the launch, it was a rather big let down on the overall gaming experience.

If you are a fan of id Software's games, I do recommend RAGE. It's not a greatest game out there, but it has it's moments. If, on the other hand you are short of time and crave for some truly great entertainment, there are better options.

    Pros:
    - The action, at times
    - The idea and potential for the story
    - Pretty post apocalyptic scenery and semi-comic imagery

    Cons:
    - The, oh, so very static world. Not a cloud moves in the sky.
    - Race grinding.
    - Was there a main story? I can't remember. If there was, it was really unremarkable and bland. (Oh, wait, I am mistaken. I do remember the story. It really is unremarkable and bland.)
    - The sounds and overall feeling of the weapons. Since the Doom 3 failure, why cannot they get those right? (This is a minor issue though.)

Although being the less loved cousin to Doom and Quake, Rage is still fun to play in its own right at least once.... maybe twice 4-5 years later.... while your waiting for the next iD game to come out.. It's great they tried some new IP, pity not much more was done with it.

Don't expect an open world shooter. Lots of stunning visuals and great detail in the environment design. Unfortunately invisible walls won't let you fully explore your surrounds. Exploding people with big guns is still fun!

Another case of great game ruined by word-of-mouth bad reviews by people who never even played the game.

"Haha that game's so bad don't bother"

    "Why?"

    "It's garbage hahaha!"
