This game has been in my heart since childhood. I still remember almost literally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my self in the most scary locations (ain't going to spoil which ones for the new ones here).

Immersive atmosphere, lots of NPCs, fantastic storyline, and most importantly, guitar songs. I frigging love them.

This game deserves a 10/10, in my opinion, and the only reason I hate it's developers is for cancellation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is the ultimate survival game. It does not care to help you, or try to make your time fun and in fact will sometimes even send in troops to wipe out your "safe" starting point. I'm still not sure what agitated them that much, they were relentless and wiped out everything except the trader. Things happen in the world without your involvement.
Anyway, assuming that weirdness doesn't happen to you, surviving in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is actually a real effort, and you can feel good about yourself for living that one extra hour each time you play. Or even that one extra minute.

    10/10 for surprise deaths.

If you like Fallout 3, NV, 4 and think "Oh this is Russian Fallout xDDD" and decide to buy it. Youre wrong. You will die. This game is unlike any survival game I have ever played. You know nothing of whats going on, only find and kill a man. The Zone is one of the spookiest environments of any game ive ever played because of how much this game takes me in. If you want a good, harsh survival experience, buy this game. If you want foofoo bunny survival, go buy Fallout 4 and play on survival difficulty.

This is one of my favorite games of all time.
Steam says I've only got 16 hours clocked in on this, but I bought this on disc as a teenager when it first came out in 2007, and probably have well over +100 hours otherwise. Back then it was so horribly buggy and unoptimized at launch, that even while playing on the lowest settings it still chugged at 15 fps and the load times were God-awful. But even then, I was so absorbed in the world that was created here, it was unlike anything I had ever played before, that I was still completely engaged.

Now, ten years on, the game has so much more to offer. There are so many mods available that you can play through the game several times and get entirely different experiences every time. The combat is slow and somewhat tactical and requires patience, and the gameplay itself is clunky, and the difficulty is somewhere between challenging and outright punishing, but you'll never play a game like this again. This is Eastern European sci-fi horror/post apocolypse at its finest.

Why pay all that money for VR in order to be immersed when you can just get a cheap Adidas tracksuit, some stale bread, a bottle of vodka to wash it down with and squat down to play some STALKER.

Be a bit multicultural and experience the true life of a Slav.

An absolute must-play for anyone into first-person shooters.

Despite its notorious amount of bugs (which are easily fixed with well-known mods and community patches for the game), the mechanics of this game and its rather considerable difficulty (at least when compared to other first-person shooters) make it very entertaining to play through. Don't come into this game expecting some masterfully crafted plot or anything of the sort. The story does just its job of giving you a reason to move forward, while also staying out of the way so you can take in everything the Zone has to offer.

No game has come close to being as immersive and having such a good atmosphere as the STALKER games.

If this game was a waifu, it'd be mine.

Never will you play a game as atmospheric and as magical as STALKER.
STALKER is a magic that has yet to been recreated.

    - just left starting area
    - hearing barking and howling
    - turn around and see pack of dogs rushing towards me
    - PANIC!
    - back-pedaling!!!
    - decide to jump onto a fallen tree, thinking the AI would be stupid enough to not reach me
    - see an anomaly on the other side, more PANIC!
    - turn around
    - alpha dog actually lunges onto me and knocks me off the tree
    - dog lands onto anomaly and dies
    - take that!
    - proceed to get eaten alive by the rest of the pack

Was absolutely normal and happy while playing this game but by the time I finished it I found myself squatting infront of my computer smoking cheap cigarettes and drinking vodka while wearing adidas track pants and a jacket singing cheeki breeki all along...10 out of 10 would squat again

    About S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

    S.T.A.L.K.

E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - In 1986, the world's worst nuclear disaster occurred at the Chernobyl power station. Soviet authorities established a 30km 'Exclusion Zone' around this nuclear wasteland, but in 2006 a second explosion rocked the stricken reactor, obliterating all living things and causing the Zone's boundaries to ripple outwards. From this epicenter came waves of mutated creatures, deadly radiation, and a strange, anomalous energy.

The Zone was cordoned off by the military, who would shoot on sight anyone foolish enough to brave the horrors within. It is now 2012 - man has ventured further and further into the heart of the Zone driven by reports of strange 'artifacts' imbued with anomalous energy. Mercenaries and bounty hunters compete to recover these artifacts, which command extortionate prices on the black market. Others seek to find the truth behind the Zone, while some merely revel in the desolate lawlessness of the place. Whatever their motivation, over time these individuals - Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killer, Explorers and Robbers - have become known as S.

    T.A.L.K.E.

R.s. Awakening in the Zone, you are one such S.T.A.

L.K.E.R., fighting for survival in this man-made Hell, while trying to discover the truth behind Chernobyl's sinister past and ominous future.

An immersive storyline seamlessly blended with a living, breathing, non-linear open-world environment governed by the revolutionary 'A-Life' system. Accurately modeled real-world buildings and locations from deep inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Unique 'Survival FPS' game play - combines action, stealth, survival and RPG elements to create an incomparable experience in the Zone. Enemy Threat Evaluation AI system - NPC characters react dynamically to environments and situations. Brutally realistic combat mechanics - weapons display accurate ballistic properties and can be modified with silencers and telescopic scopes.

Dynamic day/night and weather system directly impacts game play. Advanced physics and dynamic lighting effects powered by the proprietary 'X-Ray Engine'. Intense multiplayer action, supporting up to 32 players..
