This recommendation carrys with it a huge caveat. Parts of this game are more of what was good about Crimes and Punishments, and parts of it are more of what wasn't. Too much of this game is focused on action sequences that aren't polished enough to be fun to play, and aren't good-looking enough to be satisfying as pure spectacle. The over-arching narrative also fails to engage as a Sherlock Holmes storyline, and the only redeeming parts of the plot are those found in the individual cases, some of which are better than others.

It's a decently pretty game, and the gameplay ranges from good to bad, never awful to excellent, but the story just isn't engaging enough to carry the whole game (also, I was completely not on board with Holmes being an adoptive father). If you liked C&P, you'll probably like this one, but not nearly as much.

Excellent. While yes, it's pretty much more of the same and does very little to innovate the series (the game basically plays exactly the same as Crimes and Punishments) but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The cases are thrilling with twists and that fit perfectly with previous Holmes stories. The overarching story is an intriguing mystery with a painfully obvious twist (anyone even vaguely familiar with Doyle's stories or the various adaptations will see it coming from miles away) but it's well written enough to be engaging and at times, emotional and touching. This is Frogwares best version of Holmes yet with the player being able to define his personality (making Holmes either incapable of empathy or someone who has sympathy for those who turn to crime) and of course the moral choices at the end of each case (who is the culprit? And do you absolve them or condemn them?). Several gripes come from an overuse of puzzles (especially in an Mayan temple segment) and an almost criminal under use of Holmes' faithful ally Dr Watson who doesn't get very much to do here. Despite this, the game is pretty fun, challenging and a must play for many Holmes fanatics.

i'm a fan of "sherlock holmes"- stuff and so i'm not realy objectively ;) but:

    - the graphic is absolutely fantastic

    - there is a semi-open-world

    - the puzzles on "normal" are good solvable

    - and the story is mainly exciting

    - the only disadvantage is the price...the price is to high, or the playtime to short ;)

--->@IT-schlaubis, i now at last want to play on, plz develop some DLC's! :)

    P.S. @♥♥♥♥trolle, my shots are ingame :)

Fantastic game. If you like games like L.A Noire or Murdered: Souls Suspect this game is for you.
Action packed and filled with amazing cases that are going to keep you playing for hours. The graphics were also amazing and in my opinion the game is worth its full price.
8/10 - Could be a bit bigger (me trying to feed my hunger for Sherlock).

It has the same gameplay as Crimes and Punishments, but its not a con, but a pro. Because C&P was the best in the series. I love this new episode too. Only the hunting scene was a little too long and too... odd.
But these new cases are very enjoyable. I understand the developers to not change any of gameplay first time in this series.
I already could play the next title with this very same engine.
But please... less running, escaping, hunted actions.

In the very first scene in The Devil's Daughter, there's a number of chances to fail in dialogue, character portraits and so on.
You need to evaluate the information you're given carefully and quickly or you'll build incomplete or inaccurate information about the case - and there's no going back to correct your mistakes, unless you play on easy mode.

Crimes and Punishments had six well-crafted scenarios with memorable characters and attention to detail not found in other games, but there's generally not much gameplay until the very end of the case. This game seems to require much more player involvement, and not just minigames but actual decision-making.

Within the first five minutes I knew I'd absolutely love this game.
